Jamie Boyle spent her childhood studying dance; shifting her focus to Studio Arts and Art History after an illness altered her body’s capacity for movement. Her work continues to pursue a relationship to movement and performance, and Boyle has grown increasingly committed to handweaving processes, driven by the physicality and ubiquity of cloth. The usage of text in her work is inspired by her mother’s calligraphy practice, which surrounded her with framed fragments of text, quotes, and prayers. She frequently collaborates on the design and production of material things—costumes, props, sets—for performances. Boyle was born in Pittsburgh, and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
